How to distinguish mold grades? Let's take a look at the five major standards of American molds

The price of exported molds will be more expensive, but there are reasons for it, because the standards are different. The American Plastics Industry Association (SPIAN-102-78) divides molds into five categories. These five types of molds each have different requirements and standards. This mold classification is only applicable to molds with injection molding machines of 400 tons or less.

    Type 101

The cycle can reach 1 million times and is used for extremely high-volume products. It is made of prohibited word mold materials, so the price is extremely expensive. The required standards are as follows:

    (1) Detailed mold design information is required.

    (2) The mold base hardness requires at least BHN280 (HRC30).

    (3) The mold surface (including the upper mold and the lower mold) must be at least in the BHN450 (48RC) hardness range. All other accessories such as sliding block, inclined top, pressing top, etc. should use hard tool steel.

    (4) The ejector must be equipped with guides.

    (5) The side slider must be equipped with loss plates.

    (6) A temperature controller should be installed on the upper mold, lower mold, slider or mold where possible.

    (7) In terms of mold life, due to the erosion of the cooling water pipeline, the product quality is reduced and the injection cycle is increased. It is recommended that the embedded parts or templates with cooling water are treated for corrosion prevention.

    (8) All molds of this type must be equipped with parting line clamping mechanism.

    Type 102

The cycle can reach 500,000 to 1 million times. For high-volume products, it is expensive to choose better quality mold materials. The required standards are as follows:

    (1) Detailed mold design information is required.

    (2) The mold base hardness requires at least BHN280 (HRC30).

    (3) The surface hardness of the upper and lower molds should be in the range of BHN540 (HRC48). All other functional parts should be heat treated.

    (4) Install a temperature controller on the upper mold, lower mold, slider or mold where possible.

    (5) All molds of this type must be equipped with parting line clamping mechanism.

    (6) The following items may be needed or not, depending on the consideration of the final production quantity. It is recommended that these projects also make a confirmed quotation.

    Ejector guide

    Slider loss plate

    Controller pipeline with anti-corrosion treatment

    Electroplating upper mold

    Type 103

The cycle can reach 500,000 times. The price is reasonable for the medium-volume products. The required standards are as follows:

    (1) Detailed mold design information is required.

    (2) The mold base hardness requires at least BHN165 (HRC17).

    (3) The upper and lower molds must have at least BHN280 (HRC30) hardness or above.

    (4) Free choice of all other accessories.

    Type 104

The cycle can reach 100,000 times. Used for low-volume products, the mold material has low wear resistance, and the price is lower than the general reasonable level. The required standards are as follows:

    (1) It is recommended to have mold design information.

    (2) The mold base can be mild steel or aluminum.

    (3) The upper mold can be aluminum metal, mild steel or other identifiable materials.

    (4) All other accessories can be freely selected.

    Type 105

The cycle does not exceed 500 times. It is used to produce a limited number of first boards, and the price is very cheap. The required standards are as follows:

The mold structure may be die-casting material, epoxy resin or other materials that can provide sufficient strength to produce the minimum number of first boards.
